A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Wind River Mountains West and Wind River Mountains East, effective immediately until 6:00 AM MDT on Wednesday, October 14. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton, Wyoming, warns of expected snow which could create hazardous travel conditions.

Residents and travelers in the affected areas should prepare for snow accumulations. Elevations up to 9,000 feet are expected to see a coating to 3 inches of snow. Higher elevations, 9,000 feet and above, could experience significant snowfall ranging from 3 to 12 inches. Along South Pass, a coating to an inch of snow is anticipated, primarily on grassy surfaces.

The NWS advises that travel could become difficult, especially in backcountry areas. Commutes across South Pass may also be impacted. Drivers are urged to slow down and use caution while traveling. For the latest road conditions, residents can call 511.
