Residents in the Wind River Mountains East, Wind River Basin, Lander Foothills, and Green Mountains and Rattlesnake Range areas should seek indoor shelter immediately due to strong thunderstorms. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Riverton, Wyoming, issued a Special Weather Statement today, October 10, 2026, effective until 4:00 PM MDT.

Doppler radar indicates a line of strong thunderstorms moving northeast at 55 mph, capable of producing wind gusts up to 55 mph. These winds can knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured outdoor objects.

Locations in the path of these storms include Lander, Red Canyon, Milford, and Sinks Canyon State Park around 3:20 PM MDT. Fort Washakie is expected to be impacted around 3:25 PM MDT, followed by Ethete and Hudson around 3:30 PM MDT. Other areas that will be affected include Arapahoe, Kinnear, Morton, Pilot Butte Reservoir, Riverton, Pavillion, and Ocean Lake.

If you are outdoors, immediately seek shelter inside a sturdy building. Stay informed by monitoring local weather updates.
