A Special Weather Statement has been issued for parts of Teton, Lincoln, and Sublette Counties. Residents outdoors should seek shelter immediately due to a strong thunderstorm near Hoback.

The National Weather Service in Riverton, Wyoming issued the statement at 7:03 PM MDT, effective until 7:45 PM MDT tonight, October 10th. At 7:02 PM MDT, radar indicated a strong thunderstorm 13 miles south of Jackson, moving east at 40 mph.

Expected hazards include wind gusts between 50 to 55 mph and penny-sized hail. These winds could bring down tree limbs and displace unsecured objects. Minor damage to plants is possible from the hail.

The storm is expected to impact mainly rural areas, including Hoback Campground, Granite Creek Campground, and Kozy Campground. Cloud-to-ground lightning is frequent with this storm. Remember, lightning can strike up to 10 miles away. If you are outdoors, immediately move inside a building or vehicle for safety.
