The Florida Department of Health in Martin County (DOH-Martin) has issued a water quality health advisory for the area surrounding the Roosevelt Bridge in Stuart. The advisory is in effect until bacteria levels return to acceptable health standards.
Tests conducted on Monday, September 14, revealed that water quality near the Roosevelt Bridge did not meet the state's recommended recreational water quality criteria for Enterococcus bacteria. As a result, DOH-Martin is advising residents to avoid all water-related activities in the affected location due to an increased risk of illness for swimmers.
The elevated bacteria levels were identified during routine water quality monitoring. The department's guidelines establish specific thresholds for bacteria, and the samples taken at the Roosevelt Bridge exceeded these limits.
This advisory will remain in place until further sampling confirms that bacteria levels have dropped below the established health threshold. DOH-Martin will continue to monitor the water quality.
For more information or to inquire about water quality sampling data, residents can call DOH-Martin at 772-221-4090.
