Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold is seeking additional medical opinions for a hip injury sustained during the team's Sept. 9 season-opening victory against the New England Patriots. Darnold left the game in the first quarter and was replaced by Drew Lock.
Initial concerns pointed to a potential hip socket fracture, which could have ended Darnold's season. However, further examination revealed a tendon injury in the glute. FOX Sports' Jay Glazer reported that while the injury is not season-ending, the team is gathering four second opinions to determine a return timetable and treatment plan.
Darnold will miss next week's game. His return timeline beyond that remains uncertain as medical professionals gather more information. The Seahawks will play without their starting quarterback in the immediate future.
