Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen faces two misdemeanor charges following an alleged drunken driving incident that occurred on August 30. Court records indicate formal charges were filed on Tuesday, September 16, against the six-time Pro Bowler for operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent to 0.15 or more and operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
This development impacts the local sports community, particularly fans of the Indianapolis Colts, as it involves a prominent player. While the incident occurred outside of Stuart, the charges against a high-profile athlete like Allen garner attention and raise questions about player conduct and team implications.
Allen posted a $500 cash bond, and his attorneys waived an initial hearing that had been scheduled for Wednesday, September 17. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department conducted a traffic investigation shortly after 1 a.m. on August 30 after officers observed a vehicle park in a no-parking zone. Officers noticed signs of intoxication when they spoke with Allen, leading to his arrest after further investigation.
The 34-year-old Allen is currently in his 14th NFL season, his first with the Colts after spending 12 of his previous 13 years with the San Diego-Los Angeles Chargers. He signed with the Colts on August 19, reuniting him with coach Shane Steichen, who was a Chargers assistant for the first seven years of Allen’s career. Allen led the Colts with six receptions for 32 yards in Sunday’s season-opening 41-23 loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Colts coach Shane Steichen declined to address the charges before Wednesday’s practice, where Allen was expected to participate. Allen has not publicly commented on the incident. An attorney conference for the case is scheduled for October 26.
