Syphilis Cases Double in Washington County 2024
Washington County Public Health reported 15 cases of primary and secondary syphilis between January 1 and April 11, 2024, compared with 9 cases throughout 2023 and 6 cases in 2022.
Syphilis spreads through direct contact with sores that appear on the genitals, anus, rectum, lips, or mouth. Without treatment, the infection causes serious health complications.
Public Health officials recommend condoms used correctly and consistently during sexual activity. People with multiple sexual partners should seek regular testing.
