St. Mary's Mission to the Salish (Flathead), Stevensville, Montana
The rebuilt church, St. Mary’s Mission, in Bitterroot Valley near Victor and Stevensville, Montana. Started in 1841 by jesuit missionairies (black robes) Pierre-Jean De Smet, Gregory Mengarini, Nicholas Point, Joseph Specht, William Claessens og Charles Huett after repeated requests by the local Salish people (Flatheads). Left in 1851. According to custom burned when it had been empty for two years. Rebuilt in 1866 by (among others) black robes Anthony Ravalli og Claessens. Restored during the 1
