A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Melbourne FL for Coastal St. Lucie, Coastal Martin, and Inland Martin counties. Residents are advised to seek shelter indoors if outdoors as a strong thunderstorm approaches.

As of 4:54 PM EDT today, October 11, Doppler radar detected a strong thunderstorm near Jupiter, moving northeast at 5 mph. This storm is capable of producing wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea-sized hail. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is also possible.

Locations that may be impacted include Jupiter, Stuart, Tequesta, Jupiter Island, and Palm City. The statement is effective immediately and expires at 5:30 PM EDT today.

Conditions are also favorable for the development of weak, brief funnel clouds. While rare, these can briefly touch down, producing wind gusts exceeding 50 mph. If a funnel cloud is sighted, move indoors immediately and report your sighting to the National Weather Service.
