Beachgoers are strongly advised to avoid entering the surf due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Melbourne FL. This alert is in effect from October 10 at 12:18 AM EDT until October 11 at 1:00 AM EDT.

Dangerous rip currents are expected along the coasts of Volusia, Indian River, Saint Lucie, Martin, and Brevard Counties. These powerful channels of water can swiftly pull swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

The NWS warns that even experienced swimmers can be affected. If you find yourself caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Always heed the advice of lifeguards, beach patrol flags, and signs.
