Strong Storm Near Picolata: Wind Gusts, Flooding Possible - Act Now

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Eastern Clay, Eastern Putnam, and St. Johns counties, warning of a strong thunderstorm with 40 mph wind gusts and minor flooding, effective until 4:45 PM EDT today.

Residents in Eastern Clay, Eastern Putnam, Northeast Coastal St. Johns, Southeast Coastal St. Johns, Northern Inland St. Johns, Southern Inland St. Johns, and Western St. Johns counties should seek shelter indoors as a strong thunderstorm approaches. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jacksonville, FL, has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective immediately, October 5, 2026, at 4:04 PM EDT, expiring at 4:45 PM EDT.

At 4:04 PM EDT, radar indicated a strong thunderstorm near Picolata, approximately 10 miles north of Hastings, moving northeast at 10 mph. This storm carries hazards including wind gusts around 40 mph and minor flooding due to heavy rainfall.

The NWS warns that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor flooding due to heavy rainfall is possible, and torrential rainfall is occurring. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.

Areas impacted include Saint Augustine, Hastings, World Golf Village, Saint Augustine Beach, Vilano Beach, Picolata, Federal Point, South Ponte Vedra, Saint Augustine Shores, and Butler Beach.

If you are outdoors in the affected areas, seek shelter inside a building immediately.
