Residents and visitors along the Northeast Florida coast should prepare for a Coastal Flood Advisory and a High Rip Current Risk, effective immediately. The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued these alerts for Coastal Nassau, Coastal Duval, Coastal Flagler, Northeast Coastal St. Johns, and Southeast Coastal St. Johns counties.

The Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect from noon Tuesday, October 5th, until 5 AM EDT Thursday, October 7th. Minor coastal flooding is expected, potentially affecting lots, parks, and roads, with isolated road closures possible. If travel is required, allow extra time and do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Property owners in flood-prone areas should take necessary protective actions.

A High Rip Current Risk is in effect from Tuesday afternoon, October 5th, through late Wednesday night, October 6th. Dangerous rip currents are expected. Swimmers are advised to swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, remain calm and float. Do not attempt to swim against the current. If possible, swim parallel to the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and signal for help.

These alerts were issued by the NWS Jacksonville FL on October 5th at 12:35 PM EDT and are effective until October 8th at 5:00 AM EDT.
