High Rip Current Risk, Minor Coastal Flooding for Duval, Flagler, St. Johns Co.
A High Rip Current Risk is in effect until 8:00 PM EDT tonight, September 27, for Coastal Duval, Coastal Flagler, and St. Johns Counties, with a Coastal Flood Advisory until Monday morning, September 28, warning of dangerous rip currents and minor coastal flooding.
Residents and visitors in Coastal Duval, Coastal Flagler, Northeast Coastal St. Johns, and Southeast Coastal St. Johns Counties should be aware of a High Rip Current Risk in effect until 8:00 PM EDT this evening, September 27. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Jacksonville has also issued a Coastal Flood Advisory for these areas, active until 5:00 AM EDT Monday, September 28.
During the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous rip currents are expected. Even strong swimmers can be swept away from shore. If caught in a rip current, the NWS advises to relax and float, not to swim against the current. If able, swim parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help. Whenever possible, swim near a lifeguard.
The Coastal Flood Advisory warns of minor coastal flooding, which may lead to flooding of lots, parks, and roads. While only isolated road closures are expected, if travel is necessary, allow extra time. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Property owners in flood-prone areas should take necessary protective actions.
