Suspicious Death Investigation
On October 24, 2023, the Springfield Police Department discovered a deceased female in a residence in the 3700 block of E. 8th Court. The identity of the female was initially unknown, and no cause of death could be determined on scene. On October 25, 2023, with the assistance of the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, the female’s identify was confirmed as 41-year-old Amanda Mae Posey. The incident remains under investigation, and the cause of death determination is pending an autopsy and toxicology results. The Springfield Police Department urges anyone with information about Ms. Posey’s death to contact us at (850) 872-7545. Anonymous tips may be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (850) 785-TIPS.

Special Pickup Info
The city provides a one time a year bulk pickup service for larger items that do not meet collection requirements for most residents with active utility accounts. Items must be placed within 10 feet of the curb but not in the street, under overhead wires, or low-hanging limbs. Yard debris and household items may be disposed of simultaneously; however, they must be in separate piles. Pickups are scheduled in the order in which they are called into the Public Works Department. Residents can also request a special pickup for an additional charge, which will be added to the resident's monthly utility bill. The rates for these pickups are as follows: Clean Yard debris: $101.43 for every 15 minutes Miscellaneous items (Class III and Construction & Demolition): $111.57 for every 15 minutes After placing all your refuse at the curb, call the Temple Terrace Public Works Department at (813) 506-6570. Once your request is submitted your pickup will be serviced in order by request date. NOTE: The free annual pickup does NOT apply to the removal of Construction and Demolition debris, Tires, household hazardous waste or trees larger than 10" DBH (Diameter at Breast Height). Trimming and removing trees 10" in diameter or larger requires a permit from the City of Temple Terrace. The work must be approved by the city arborist or any licensed arborist who has inspected the tree and submitted the proper permit application. Invasive species are exempt. The city will remove tree debris for a fee (see fees above). Household Hazardous Waste Household Hazardous waste is NOT to be picked up by any special or annual pickup. Hillsborough County provides a service to city residents for free disposal of items including, but not limited to: Motor oil/Cooking oil Car batteries Chemicals Pesticides Fluorescent/LED light bulbs Antifreeze/Engine coolant Fire extinguishers View more information on disposing of Household Hazardous Waste or call the Hillsborough County Solid Waste Department at (813)-272-5680. Household Electronics & Paint Electronics & Paint are NOT to be picked up by any special or annual pickup. Apopka Fire Public Relations Request Form This form is for organizations and community members interested in holding events with the Apopka Fire Department. Please submit your request at least two weeks prior to the requested event date. Date and time selected are not guaranteed until approved. Please Note: The Apopka Fire Department holds a commitment to the safety and well-being of Apopka residents. This means that they may have to respond to emergency calls before or during your event. Due to the unpredictable nature of emergency calls, we cannot guarantee that Apopka Fire Department vehicles will be present at the event's start or for the entire duration. After Submission The Apopka Fire Department is pleased to provide our community with several types of public relation activities. Someone will be in contact with you in the next 4 to 5 business days to discuss the approval of your event and other important details. As a reminder, please read the event request instructions: Please give a 2 to 3 weeks notice to schedule all programs. Arrival times are approximate; units are in service and may be diverted to an emergency call. Have an alternate day ready. We cannot endorse any products or service. In order to schedule your request, the form must be submitted with all required fields filled out. Our Fire Admin Staff will review and either confirm or deny your activity request.

CPR / First Aid Classes The Apopka Fire Department is an authorized training center with the American Heart Association and offers all levels of CPR training to residents and businesses. Visit the American Heart Association page to learn about Hands-Only CPR. Class Information Please Note: Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Check Back for Available Classes CPR/AED: This program is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR or AED use to meet a requirement. First Aid: This program is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in First Aid to meet a job, regulatory, or other requirement and is seeking an alternative to classroom-based training. CPR/AED/First Aid (Combination): This program is for anyone with limited or no medical training who needs a course completion card in CPR, AED, and/or First Aid to meet a job, regulatory, or other requirement and is seeking an alternative to classroom-based training. Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (Cost: $75): This course if for healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings. Approximate Class Times 3 Hours for Basic Classes 5 Hours for Combination CPR/AED/First Aid 4.5 Hours for Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers Certification Card Those who successfully complete the course are issued a CPR/AED certification card that is valid for two years. Chief of Police
CONGRATULATIONS CHIEF JASON FIELDS Chief Jason Fields has been with the City of Fort Myers since September of 2000. Before becoming the Chief of Police in August of 2023, Chief Fields rose through the ranks from a Patrol Officer, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and to an Acting Major. Chief Fields’ focus has always been on reducing crime through intelligence-led, proactive policing, and a cooperative partnership with the community while inspiring employee performance. Chief Fields has also been involved with SWAT, Internal Affairs, Training, Hiring & Recruiting, Accreditation, and Field Training Programs. Chief Fields' educational background includes a Master of Science Degree from Hodges University in Criminal Justice and a Bachelor of Science Degree from International College. Chief Fields is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Session 286, and is a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police. He is proud to now be leading the officers and civilians of the Fort Myers Police Department in a progressive direction of law enforcement and public safety.

Farmworker Employment Training Skip to Primary Content Home > Community Services > Farmworker Employment Training Farmworker Employment Training Share: The Farmworker Career Development Program provides migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their dependents in Miami-Dade County with quality pathways to career educational and vocational trainings to achieve a high-wage in high-growth employment opportunities. Trainees may receive emergency support services to alleviate financial hardships for food, sustainability, transportation and utilities or rental. Farmworkers and their dependents can receive vocational and employment training services, including career counseling, job placement and more. Recipients must meet federal poverty guidelines. Psychology Internship
Psychology Internship Miami-Dade County funds four full-time, pre-doctoral, clinical psychology interns each year. The general training philosophy of the Psychology Internship Program follows a Mentor/Practitioner model. Licensed mentor supervisors train interns to work with clients of all ages. The internship program is accredited by the APA Commission on Accreditation (APA-CoA) and is a member of the Association of Psychology Postdoctoral and Internship Centers (APPIC). The internship stipend is $36,982 per year. All interns are considered temporary Miami-Dade County employees. Preferential consideration is given to applicants who have demonstrated an interest in working with children, adolescents and adults through related coursework, practice, externships and work experience. The Internship Program abides by all APPIC policies, including the APPIC match policies. Requirements to Apply Submit the required APPIC Application for Psychology Internships (AAPI). Include a cover letter indicating any preference for clinical assignment and areas. To be considered for the internship program, you are expected to: Submit a photo identification. Provide a County issued identification. Pass a level 2 background check. Review the policies and procedures manual on an annual basis or more if necessary. Have completed three years of graduate study from an APA-accredited clinical, counseling or school psychology program. Have completed at least 600 practicum hours, 50 assessment hours and three years of clinical experience. Submit completed APPIC application documents. Provide verification of internship eligibility and readiness form from the university’s training director. Internship Admissions, Support and Initial Placement Data Psychology Internship Handbook Program Competencies There are nine areas of competence for the internship program: Research Ethical and legal standards Individual and cultural diversity Professional values, attitudes and behaviors Communication and interpersonal skills Evidence-based assessments Evidence-based interventions Supervision Consultation and interprofessional/interdisciplinary skills Placement of Practicum Students Students (bachelor and master level) in the mental health field can also request placement with the Community Action and Human Services Department to fulfill the clinical experience requirement for their masters or bachelors degrees. All requests for placement will be referred to the Training Director at least three months prior to the beginning of the semester. The Training Director will present all placement requests to the Training Committee to determine if the applicant meets the minimum qualifications. Upon meeting the qualifications, the applicant will be scheduled for an interview. Placement is pending until application is approved by the Division Director and Unit Supervisor. The Division Director and Unit Supervisor will meet with the applicant to confirm desired skills and qualifications for the program. A general overview of goals, nature of tasks, hours and any other information will be provided. The Training Committee will make the final decision for acceptance into the program. If the applicant is not a good fit, he or she may be referred to the Training Committee for another division or unit. Each division unit supervisor will develop a document outlining the applicant responsibilities. Document will be signed and dated by the student and supervisor. All students must have a Miami-Dade County ID. The documentation of supervision form must be completed by the task supervisor or ancillary supervisor.
