Van Halen's final studio album, "A Different Kind of Truth," will be reissued on CD and vinyl on October 23. Rhino Records is handling the release of the 2012 album, marking its first official reissue in several years.
Fans across the Suncoast region, from Spring Hill to Brooksville, can purchase the album on CD and as a two-LP set. The 13-track record, originally released Feb. 7, 2012, reunited Eddie Van Halen, drummer Alex Van Halen, bassist Wolfgang Van Halen, and original vocalist David Lee Roth. This marked Roth's first studio album with the band since 1984. The album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 charts and later earned gold certification.
"A Different Kind of Truth" drew heavily from the band's earlier work, with seven songs redeveloped from demos recorded in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Tracks like "She's the Woman" and "Big River" connect to material from the band's formative years. Wolfgang Van Halen described the process as a way to reconnect the group with its original songwriting approach.
The new vinyl lacquers were cut by Chris Bellman at Bernie Grundman Mastering. The two-LP set will be pressed on 180-gram vinyl and housed in a gatefold package. A limited crystal-clear vinyl edition will be available through participating independent record stores and Rhino's online store.
Renewed interest in Van Halen's catalog continues following Eddie Van Halen's death in 2020. The band, formed in Los Angeles in 1974, sold over 75 million albums worldwide. "A Different Kind of Truth" remains the group's final studio album and Eddie Van Halen's last studio recording with the band. Preorders are available on Van Halen's website.
