Cumberland County Smart911 Emergency Alert System
Cumberland County residents must register for a new emergency alert system after officials switched from CodeRed to Rave Alert, powered by Smart911. The Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency announced the change February 20.
The new system lets residents and visitors register addresses and receive calls, texts or emails when disasters affect those locations. Anyone who used CodeRed must sign up again at cumberlandcountyme.gov/ema or by calling 207-893-2810.
Emergency Management Director Michael Durkin said the address-based approach has advantages over systems that alert cell phones in a geographic area. "You can enter multiple addresses," Durkin said. "Your home, work, a camp, your children's bus stop. That flexibility matters."
The system also serves out-of-state property caretakers who want alerts for Maine locations.
For more information, contact the Cumberland County Emergency Management Agency at 207-892-6785 or visit cumberlandcountyme.gov/ema. Media inquiries go to Director Durkin at [email protected].
