A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Southeast St. Tammany, including Slidell, as of 10:01 PM CDT on October 8. The National Weather Service (NWS) New Orleans reports a severe and immediate threat, primarily from life-threatening storm surge.

Residents in surge-prone areas should anticipate a potential for 3-5 feet of inundation above ground. This life-threatening storm surge is a concern through Saturday morning. Evacuation efforts and flood preparations must be completed before conditions become unsafe. If evacuation orders are given for your area, leave immediately to avoid being cut off from emergency services.

While sustained winds are expected to remain below tropical storm force, with peak gusts up to 45 mph, significant storm surge impacts are forecast. These include potential damage to buildings near Lake Pontchartrain and the Rigolets, weakening or washing out of near-shore escape routes and secondary roads, and moderate damage to marinas and docks. No significant flooding rain or tornado threats are currently expected.

This Tropical Storm Warning is effective until 6:15 AM UTC on October 9. For more information and updates, visit gohsep.la.gov/emergency.
