Strong Thunderstorm Nears Shelby: Seek Shelter, Expect Gusts & Hail

CLEVELAND – Residents in and around Shelby should seek shelter indoors immediately as a strong thunderstorm approaches the area. The National Weather Service (NWS) Greenville-Spartanburg SC has issued a Special Weather Statement at 9:34 PM EDT, effective until 10:15 PM EDT tonight.

Doppler radar indicates a strong thunderstorm near Shelby, moving southwest at 10 mph. The primary hazards associated with this storm include wind gusts up to 40 mph and penny-sized hail.

Impacted areas include Shelby, Boiling Springs NC, Patterson Springs, Lattimore, Mooresboro, Earl, Kingstown, and Lawndale. The NWS advises that gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to outdoor objects is also possible.
