Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Cleveland, NC & Cherokee, SC

Residents in south central Cleveland County, North Carolina, and northeastern Cherokee County, South Carolina, must take immediate shelter due to a Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued by the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg.

This warning is in effect until 10:00 PM EDT tonight, September 21. A severe thunderstorm, located 10 miles southeast of Shelby (over Grover) and moving southwest at 10 mph, was detected at 9:26 PM EDT.

The primary hazards are 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail. These conditions are expected to cause minor hail damage to vehicles and wind damage to trees and power lines. Locations impacted include Blacksburg, Grover, Earl, Cherokee Falls, and Kings Creek.
