A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Selma, urging residents to prepare for hazardous winds up to 60 mph and potential moderate flooding from heavy rainfall.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for Selma, effective immediately, by the National Weather Service (NWS) in Birmingham, AL. This warning was issued today, October 9, at 4:20 PM CDT and is set to expire on October 10 at 12:30 AM UTC.

Residents in Selma should prepare for hazardous winds of equivalent tropical storm force, with peak forecasts of 30-40 mph and gusts up to 60 mph. Move to safe shelter before these winds become hazardous. Damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes is possible, along with downed tree limbs and potential scattered power outages. Remaining efforts to protect property should be completed as soon as possible.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with an additional 2-4 inches of rainfall expected, and locally higher amounts. This could lead to moderate flooding, prompting potential evacuations and rescues. Heed any flood watches and warnings; failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and floodwaters could enter some structures or weaken foundations. Avoid driving on flooded roads.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information and preparedness resources, visit ready.gov/hurricanes.
