Standard Dental Labs, a Florida-based dental products manufacturer, announced Friday it acquired Dunedin-based Dr. Tooth LLC. The deal will nearly double the company’s estimated annualized revenue and repatriate dental restoration work currently outsourced to China to Sarasota, bolstering local manufacturing.
The acquisition, effective Friday, includes substantially all operating assets of Dr. Tooth LLC, also known as Sheen Dental Laboratory and Hansen Incarnati. Standard Dental Labs, headquartered in Orlando, did not disclose the purchase price. The deal structured as an asset purchase involves cash, company stock, and performance conditions tied to retained customer revenue.
This acquisition aligns with Standard Dental Labs’ strategy to consolidate Florida dental laboratories around regional production facilities. The company plans to relocate all of Dr. Tooth’s dental product production, currently handled overseas, to its Sarasota operations at 4232 McIntosh Lane.
“Our focus is to bring this work back to Florida and give dentists direct access to the people making their restorations,” said James Brooks, president and chief executive officer of Standard Dental Labs Inc.
Standard Dental Labs estimates the acquisition adds more than $800,000 in annualized revenue to its existing $822,000, bringing the combined total to over $1.6 million. Dr. Tooth’s management team, Denis Thaxton and Gavin White, will remain involved.
Standard Dental Labs aims to grow the acquired business to over $1.1 million in annualized revenue by retaining current accounts, recovering former customers, and transitioning production. “We are adding an established customer base to our Sarasota operation, where the additional production can improve the economics of the facility,” Brooks said. “We also see a clear opportunity to win back business by giving customers the domestic production and responsive service they want.”
