Dangerous Rip Currents Expected Along Gulf Coast Through Saturday
A Rip Current Statement has been issued for coastal areas of Alabama and Florida, warning of dangerous rip currents from Tuesday morning through Saturday night. Residents and visitors should exercise extreme caution and follow safety guidelines from the National Weather Service.
Residents and visitors along the Alabama and Florida Gulf Coasts should be aware of a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL. Dangerous rip currents are expected from Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at 6:00 AM CDT, through late Saturday night, October 10, 2026.
This statement affects Mobile Coastal and Baldwin Coastal Counties in Alabama, and Escambia Coastal, Santa Rosa Coastal, and Okaloosa Coastal Counties in Florida. Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away from shore, and they can sweep even strong swimmers into deeper water.
The NWS advises individuals to swim near a lifeguard. If you are caught in a rip current, it is crucial to remain calm. Relax and float. Do not attempt to swim directly against the current. If possible, swim in a direction parallel to the shoreline to escape the current. If you are unable to escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
