High Rip Current Risk, Coastal Flood Advisory Issued for Gulf Coast
A High Rip Current Risk and Coastal Flood Advisory have been issued for Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa coastal areas, effective immediately and continuing into Monday, October 5th, with dangerous rip currents and minor coastal flooding expected.
Residents and visitors along the Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa coastal areas should be aware of a High Rip Current Risk and a Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL. These advisories are in effect starting immediately.
The High Rip Current Risk is in effect through Monday evening, October 5th. Dangerous rip currents are expected, capable of sweeping even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water. If you plan to enter the water, swim near a lifeguard. If caught in a rip current, relax and float. Do not swim against the current. If able, swim parallel to the shoreline. If you cannot escape, face the shore and call or wave for help.
A Coastal Flood Advisory is also in effect from midnight tonight, October 4th, until 8 AM CDT Monday, October 5th. Minor coastal flooding is expected, potentially affecting lots, parks, and roads, with isolated road closures possible. If travel is required during this period, allow extra time for your journey as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect any flood-prone property.
