Dangerous Rip Currents and High Surf for Escambia, Santa Rosa, Okaloosa Coasts
Dangerous rip currents and high surf are expected along the Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa Coasts, prompting a warning to stay out of the water until October 11.
Residents and visitors are advised to stay out of the water due to a Rip Current Statement issued by the National Weather Service Mobile AL.
This alert, effective immediately from October 10 at 4:45 AM CDT until October 11 at 6:00 PM CDT, impacts Escambia Coastal, Santa Rosa Coastal, and Okaloosa Coastal Counties.
A High Surf Warning is also in effect until 9 PM CDT this evening, with dangerously large breaking waves of 6 to 9 feet expected in the surf zone. A High Rip Current Risk will continue through Sunday afternoon, indicating dangerous rip currents.
These conditions can sweep individuals off jetties and docks into dangerous seas, create life-threatening swimming conditions, and lead to significant beach erosion. Rip currents are capable of pulling even strong swimmers away from shore into deeper water.
The National Weather Service advises everyone to remain out of the water due to these life-threatening surf conditions. Additionally, stay off of jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure.
