URGENT: Extreme Storm Surge Warning for Santa Rosa Coastal
An Extreme Storm Surge Warning is in effect for Santa Rosa Coastal, including Bagdad, Gulf Breeze, and Navarre, with life-threatening winds, storm surge, flooding rain, and tornadoes expected.
A Storm Surge Warning of Extreme severity has been issued for Santa Rosa Coastal, effective immediately, October 9, 2026, at 6:53 AM CDT by the National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile, AL. This warning impacts Bagdad, Gulf Breeze, and Navarre. It will remain in effect until 3:00 PM UTC today.
Life-threatening wind and storm surge are expected. Shelter from life-threatening wind is required now. Wind speeds of 85-105 mph with gusts to 130 mph are anticipated from early this afternoon until this evening. Potential storm surge inundation of 4-7 feet above ground is possible through Saturday morning. All ordered evacuations should be complete, and evacuees should be in shelters well away from storm surge flooding. If necessary, move to upper floors to escape rising water.
A Flood Watch is in effect, with an additional 4-8 inches of rain expected, potentially leading to major flooding. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding, and protective actions are strongly advised, especially in flood-vulnerable areas. A favorable situation for several tornadoes also exists; stay within your shelter and move quickly to the safest place if a tornado warning is issued.
