A Storm Surge Warning has been issued for Santa Rosa Coastal, including Bagdad, Gulf Breeze, and Navarre, effective immediately until 12:15 PM CDT on October 9. The National Weather Service in Mobile, AL, warns of life-threatening conditions.
Residents in affected areas must urgently complete all preparations for life-threatening wind and storm surge. Peak winds of 85-105 mph with gusts up to 130 mph are expected from early this afternoon until early Saturday morning, bringing potential for extensive damage. Move to safe shelter now. All ordered evacuations for storm surge should be complete; those still in surge-prone areas should shelter on upper floors if necessary. Potential for 4-7 feet above ground of storm surge is forecast through Saturday morning, with flooding greater than 6 feet possible.
An additional 4-8 inches of rain is expected, with locally higher amounts, leading to major flooding, potential evacuations, and rescues. A Flood Watch is in effect. Heed all flood watches and warnings. The situation is also favorable for tornadoes, with a potential for several, some possibly intense. Listen for tornado watches and warnings and be ready to shelter quickly.
