ACTION REQUIRED: High Rip Current Risk & High Surf Warning Issued

A High Rip Current Risk is in effect through Saturday night and a High Surf Warning until Sunday morning for coastal areas of Mobile, Baldwin, Escambia, Santa Rosa, and Okaloosa counties, with dangerous rip currents and waves up to 25 feet expected.

Residents and visitors in Mobile Coastal, Baldwin Coastal, Escambia Coastal, Santa Rosa Coastal, and Okaloosa Coastal counties are advised to remain out of the water immediately. A Rip Current Statement and High Surf Warning have been issued by the National Weather Service Mobile AL.

The Rip Current Statement, indicating a High Rip Current Risk, is in effect until late Saturday night, October 10. Dangerous rip currents are expected. The High Surf Warning is in effect from 7:00 AM CDT Friday, October 9, until 10:00 AM CDT Sunday, October 11. Dangerously large breaking waves of 6 to 10 feet are expected to develop Friday morning, building to 12 to 18 feet over Alabama beaches and 20 to 25 feet over northwest Florida beaches Friday night. These conditions are likely to persist through Saturday.

Life-threatening swimming conditions and significant beach erosion are anticipated. Breaking waves can sweep individuals off jetties and docks into dangerous seas. Everyone must remain out of the water. Stay off jetties, piers, and other waterside infrastructure. If caught in a rip current, relax and float, swim following the shoreline if able, or face the shore and call for help.
