Extreme Heat Warning Issued for Santa Barbara County
An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Santa Barbara County until October 8, with dangerously hot temperatures up to 100 degrees expected; residents should drink fluids, stay cool, and check on neighbors.
Residents across Santa Barbara County are advised to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard CA. This warning is effective now, October 4, at 11:04 AM PDT, and remains in effect until Thursday, October 8, at 8:00 PM PDT.
Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with temperatures reaching up to 85 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast and soaring to 100 degrees Fahrenheit in the mountains and Cuyama Valley. Areas affected include Cuyama Valley, Santa Barbara County Southwestern Coast, Santa Barbara County Southeastern Coast, Santa Ynez Mountains Western Range, Santa Ynez Mountains Eastern Range, Santa Barbara County Interior Mountains, and Santa Cruz and Anacapa Islands.
The NWS warns that heat-related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat events. To mitigate risks, residents are instructed to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, avoid direct sun exposure, and check on relatives and neighbors. There is a possibility that this product may be extended beyond Thursday evening due to continued high temperatures.
