Residents across San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara Counties are advised to take immediate precautions as a Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Los Angeles/Oxnard CA. The advisory is effective now, October 3, at 12:15 PM PDT, and will remain in effect until 8:00 PM PDT on Wednesday, October 7.

Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with temperatures reaching around 90 degrees Fahrenheit near the coast and soaring up to 103 degrees Fahrenheit inland. These high temperatures may lead to heat illnesses.

The affected areas include the San Luis Obispo County Inland Central Coast, San Luis Obispo County Interior Valleys, San Luis Obispo County Mountains, Santa Barbara County Inland Central Coast, Santa Lucia Mountains, Santa Ynez Valley, and the Southern Salinas Valley.

The NWS urges all residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, and stay out of the sun. It is also critical to check up on relatives and neighbors, especially those who may be vulnerable to heat-related illnesses, during this period of extreme heat.
