Heat Advisory Issued for Bay Area: Take Precautions This Weekend

A Heat Advisory has been issued for much of the Bay Area by NWS San Francisco, with temperatures expected to reach mid-90s to low-100s from Saturday through Monday; residents should prioritize hydration and avoid leaving children or pets in vehicles.

A Heat Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco for multiple Bay Area regions, effective from 11 AM Saturday, October 3rd, to 10 PM PDT Monday, October 5th.

Residents in the Sonoma Coastal Range, North Bay Interior Mountains, North Bay Interior Valleys, San Francisco Bay Shoreline, East Bay Interior Valleys, Santa Cruz Mountains, Santa Clara Valley (including San Jose), Eastern Santa Clara Hills, East Bay Hills, Southern Salinas Valley/Arroyo Seco and Lake San Antonio, Santa Lucia Mountains and Los Padres National Forest, and Mountains of San Benito County and Interior Monterey County (including Pinnacles National Park) should prepare for hot conditions.

Temperatures are expected to reach the mid-90s to low-100s. Mild minimum temperatures and weak onshore flow will limit overnight relief. The NWS warns that this level of heat can affect anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration, with potential impacts on health systems, heat-sensitive industries, and infrastructure.

To stay safe, the NWS advises critical hydration: drink water and consider providing water to vulnerable individuals. When outdoors, wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing, and limit strenuous activities to early mornings or evenings. Be aware of symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke and take immediate action if experienced. Never leave young children or pets in unattended vehicles, as interior temperatures can become lethal rapidly.
