A Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory are in effect for San Francisco, Northern Monterey Bay, and Southern Monterey Bay/Big Sur Coasts, warning of dangerous rip currents, sneaker waves up to 16 feet, and coastal flooding until Tuesday afternoon.
San Francisco, CA – Residents and visitors along the San Francisco, Northern Monterey Bay, and Southern Monterey Bay and Big Sur Coasts should exercise extreme caution due to a Beach Hazards Statement and Coastal Flood Advisory issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco. These alerts are in effect from October 11 at 8:45 PM PDT until October 12 at 10:00 PM PDT.
Expect an increased risk of rip currents and sneaker waves, with breaking waves potentially reaching up to 16 feet along the shoreline. Additionally, a Coastal Flood Advisory is active until 3 PM PDT on Tuesday, October 13, with up to 1.5 feet of inundation possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. High tides are predicted to be significantly above normal, enhancing flooding threats.
Impacts include potential flooding of coastal trails, parks, and roads, with some low-lying beaches becoming inaccessible. Dangerous conditions are forecast along the shoreline. The NWS advises staying off jetties, piers, rocks, and other waterside infrastructure. Remain out of the water and NEVER turn your back on the ocean. If travel is necessary, allow extra time for potential road closures. Do not drive through floodwaters. Take steps to protect flood-prone property. Monitor forecasts at www.weather.gov/mtr.
