Coastal Flood Advisory Issued: Prepare for Flooding and Road Closures
A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until Tuesday, October 13th, for San Francisco and Monterey Bay areas, with potential for flooding and road closures.
Residents in San Francisco, Northern Monterey Bay, and Southern Monterey Bay and Big Sur Coast counties should prepare for potential flooding and road closures. A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect until 3 PM PDT on Tuesday, October 13th, issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Francisco CA.
A Beach Hazards Statement is also in effect until 10 PM PDT this evening, October 12th. Up to 1.1 feet of inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways. High tides are expected to lead to flooding of infrastructure, isolated road closures, and coastal erosion.
The NWS advises that rising tides will bring water and waves farther up the beach than normal, restricting escape from beaches and coastal areas. At the San Francisco tidal gauge, high tide is expected to be 1.1 feet above normal (6.90 ft MLLW) at 1:14 PM PDT on Tuesday, October 13th, due to a surge enhancing the astronomical tide.
If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.
