Tropical Storm Watch Issued for San Diego Inland Valleys

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for San Diego County Inland Valleys, including Escondido, El Cajon, Lakeside, and Poway, urging residents to prepare for hazardous winds and potential major flooding.

A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for San Diego County Inland Valleys, including Escondido, El Cajon, Lakeside, and Poway, effective October 10 at 1:54 PM PDT, by the National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego CA. This watch is in effect until 10:00 PM PDT tonight.

Residents in affected areas should prepare for hazardous wind conditions. While peak winds are forecast at 10-20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, there is potential for winds between 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now. Potential impacts include damage to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Expect broken tree limbs and some trees to be snapped or uprooted, potentially causing road impassability and scattered power outages. Complete preparations before winds become hazardous.

A Flood Watch is also in effect, with additional rainfall of 1-3 inches expected, and locally higher amounts. There is a potential for major flooding rain. Emergency plans should include the possibility of evacuations and rescues. Strongly consider protective actions if you are in a flood-vulnerable area. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to act may result in serious injury or loss of life. Major rainfall flooding may prompt evacuations, and rivers and tributaries could rapidly overflow. Streets may become dangerous, and many road and bridge closures are possible.

Tornadoes are not expected, though showers and gusty winds may still occur. Stay informed of the latest forecast. For more information, visit sdcountyemergency.com.
