A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the San Diego County Deserts, including Borrego Springs, effective today, October 9, at 7:59 AM PDT. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego CA indicates that tropical storm-force winds are possible within the next 48 hours.

Residents in affected areas should immediately prepare for hazardous wind conditions, with gusts up to 45 mph possible, and the potential for winds reaching 39 to 57 mph. Efforts to protect property should be underway now, including securing lightweight objects and preparing for limited wind damage. Scattered power and communications outages are possible.

Additionally, emergency plans should account for the potential of moderate flooding from heavy rain. While no significant rainfall is currently forecast for Borrego Springs, the NWS warns of the possibility of moderate flooding and urges residents in vulnerable areas to consider protective actions. Heed any flood watches and warnings.

Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For more information and updates, visit sdcountyemergency.com. The watch is effective until October 9, 2026, 4:00 PM UTC.
