Residents and visitors in San Diego and Orange County Coastal Areas are advised to take immediate action due to a series of urgent coastal hazards. The National Weather Service (NWS) San Diego has issued a Beach Hazards Statement, a Coastal Flood Warning, and a Coastal Flood Advisory, impacting the region from today, October 10, through Tuesday, October 14.

A Coastal Flood Warning is in effect until 3 PM PDT Sunday, October 12, with significant coastal flooding and erosion expected. A Beach Hazards Statement is active from Sunday morning through Sunday evening, October 12, warning of surf between 5 to 7 feet, with local sets reaching up to 9 feet. This will create a high risk of rip currents. Following these, a Coastal Flood Advisory will be in effect from 3 PM Sunday, October 12, until 2 PM PDT Tuesday, October 14, indicating minor coastal flooding.

The NWS reports that numerous roads and walking paths may close due to high water. Low-lying property, including homes, businesses, and critical infrastructure, may flood. Shoreline erosion is anticipated during high tides, particularly on Sunday morning, due to Tropical Storm Rachel, which brings increased swell, onshore winds, and high tides locally over 7 feet.

Residents with flood-prone property should take necessary actions to protect it. If travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. All individuals are urged to remain out of the water to avoid hazardous swimming conditions and dangerous rip currents.
