Tropical Storm Watch Issued for San Diego County Deserts
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for San Diego County Deserts, including Borrego Springs, by the NWS San Diego CA, effective until 10 PM PDT today, October 9. Prepare for hazardous winds up to 50 mph and major flooding from heavy rainfall.
Residents in the San Diego County Deserts, specifically Borrego Springs, are advised to act now as a Tropical Storm Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service San Diego CA. This watch is effective immediately, October 9, at 1:57 PM PDT, and is set to expire at 10:00 PM PDT on the same day.
The primary threats include hazardous winds and extensive flooding. Winds are forecast to reach 25-35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, with potential for sustained winds of 39 to 57 mph. Prepare for limited wind damage, including to porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes. Large tree limbs may break, and some trees could be uprooted, potentially causing scattered power and communication outages. Efforts to protect property should be underway now.
A Flood Watch is also in effect, with around 1 inch of rainfall expected. Emergency plans should include the potential for major flooding from heavy rain, which could prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may overflow, and small streams could become dangerous. Floodwaters may enter many structures, making some uninhabitable. Roads and bridges may close or be washed out, making driving conditions dangerous. Heed all flood watches and warnings; failure to take action could result in serious injury or loss of life.
Tornadoes are not expected, but gusty winds and thunderstorms may still occur. For more information and updates, visit sdcountyemergency.com.
