High Wind Warning: Secure Loose Objects, Power Outages Expected
A High Wind Warning is in effect until 8 PM PDT/MST tonight for several areas including the Colorado River Valley, Lake Mead, Lake Mohave, and Lake Havasu, with damaging winds up to 70 mph expected to cause power outages and difficult travel.
Residents in the Northwest Plateau, Lake Havasu and Fort Mohave, Lake Mead (AZ and NV sides), Lake Mohave (AZ and NV sides), Hualapai Mountains, Northwest Deserts, San Bernardino County-Upper Colorado River Valley, Northeast Clark County, Sheep Range, Spring Mountains-Red Rock Canyon, and Southern Clark County are urged to secure all loose outdoor objects immediately.
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a High Wind Warning, effective from 4:15 AM PDT /4:15 AM MST/ today, October 11, until 8:00 PM PDT /8:00 PM MST/ this evening. South winds of 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 to 70 mph are expected.
Damaging winds are anticipated to blow down trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages. Travel will be difficult, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Dangerous boating conditions are also expected for all watercraft on area lakes, including Lake Mead, Lake Mohave, and Lake Havasu. Affected communities include Needles, Laughlin, and Bullhead City.
