Residents in the Western Mojave Desert, Eastern Mojave Desert (including the Mojave National Preserve), Morongo Basin, Cadiz Basin, and the Las Vegas Valley should prepare for high winds. The National Weather Service (NWS) Las Vegas NV has issued a Wind Advisory effective immediately, October 10 at 12:36 PM PDT, and continuing until Sunday, October 11 at 8:00 PM PDT.
South winds are expected to reach 20 to 30 mph, with gusts potentially as high as 45 to 55 mph. These strong winds can make driving difficult, especially for high-profile vehicles. The NWS advises using extra caution on roadways during this period.
Impacts of the advisory include unsecured objects being blown around. Tree limbs could be knocked down, and isolated power outages are a possibility. Secure any loose outdoor items and be aware of your surroundings.
This advisory applies to the Cadiz Basin, Eastern Mojave Desert, Morongo Basin, and Western Mojave Desert in California, and the Las Vegas Valley in Nevada.
