A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Central Minnesota due to elevated fire risk today, Friday, October 10, 2026, with high winds and dry conditions expected to lead to rapid fire spread.

Residents in numerous Central Minnesota counties should be aware of elevated fire weather conditions today, Friday, October 10, 2026. The National Weather Service (NWS) Twin Cities/Chanhassen has issued a Special Weather Statement, effective from 2:49 AM CDT and expiring at 7:00 PM CDT.

Near record high temperatures, combined with relative humidity values dropping to 30 to 40 percent and wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph, will create conditions conducive to the rapid spread of fires. This risk is particularly high in agricultural areas where crops are drier for harvest.

Affected counties include Douglas, Todd, Morrison, Mille Lacs, Kanabec, Stearns, Benton, Sherburne, Isanti, Meeker, Wright, McLeod, Sibley, Nicollet, Blue Earth, and Faribault.

The NWS advises checking burning restrictions and fire danger ratings before any burning activity. For more information on Minnesota burning restrictions, visit www.dnr.state.mn.us/forestry/fire/firerating_restrictions.html.
