Ida Sophia RomoAge 80Ida Sophia Romo, 80, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, around 7:30 p.m., just before bedtime, on Earth Day; a date that felt especially fitting for a woman so deeply connected to life, home, and the world around her.Ida was born on May 12, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, to Josephine Angelina Lange (née Tomasello) and her father, a member of the Zurawski family, whose full name remains to be added. She was raised within a richly layered family story, alongside her younger brother, Lester Wold. From this foundation, Ida grew into the strong, private, and deeply rooted woman she would become.Ida was sharp, witty, loving, and morally centered. She had a strong sense of justice and fairness, and she never hesitated to stand up for what she believed was right, no matter how difficult the fight. She was stubborn in the best way, focused, and unafraid to speak her mind. Beneath that strength was a fierce and devoted love for her family. Though she could be tough with the world, she was endlessly loving to those who mattered most. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, gardening, and crafting. She found joy in the simple, beautiful rhythms of home and care. Ida was also known as a talented realtor and a self-published author of Home Style Mexican Cooking, a reflection of her love for food, family, and tradition. Some of the most cherished memories of Ida were made in her garden, where she could often be found watering herbs, digging up garlic, or proudly showing off her flowers. She cooked the best sunny eggs, Italian bread, pasta, biscotti, jalapeño jelly, and hot buttered rum, she was truly a marvelous chef. She also made the best, most decadent, delicious cheesecake you’ve ever had in your life; a recipe so loved it will be shared in her honor with those who gather to remember her.Ida had a playful spirit and a sense of humor that those closest to her will never forget. She proudly claimed to be “39 forever,” and every year, her birthday candles reflected exactly that; a tradition that brought laughter and light to every celebration.Ida is survived by her son, Gustavo Romo, and her granddaughter, Kayla Lilliana Romo. She was preceded in death by her brother, Lester Wold; her mother, Josephine Angelina Lange/ Tomasello; and her father of the Zurawski family.Service details will be shared with family and friends in the coming days. For more information, please reach out to her granddaughter, Kayla. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Ida’s honor. Flowers may also be sent to the family once service details are announced.Ida will be remembered for her strength, her wisdom, her sharp mind, and the way she loved her family with her whole heart. She had a presence all her own: iconic, unforgettable, and stitched into the lives of the people she loved most. Her guidance, love, and example will continue to live on in her family, in all the ways she taught them: how to be strong, how to care, and how to carry a little of her spirit with them always. She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and memories that will live on in the everyday moments - in warm kitchens, blooming gardens, shared laughter, and in the quiet ways her family will always feel her presence. A little piece of her remains in everything she touched, and in the way her family carries her forward, with her love woven through all that they are and all that they become.
