Guided Nature Tours
The Parks & Recreation Department offers leisurely walking tours that explore the flora and fauna of the Egans Creek Greenway. Tours are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month from 10:00am-12:00pm, or by appointment, and begin in front of the Atlantic Recreation Center. Pre-register for a nature tour at least 1 week in advance by calling 904-310-3350, ext. 1. The tour fee is $10 per adult, $5 per child ages 12 and under. Citizens’ Task Force for Safe Walking & Biking
Citizens’ Task Force for Safe Walking & Biking Mission Under the direction of the Deputy City Manager, the goal of the Fernandina Beach Citizens’ Advisory Task Force on Walking and Biking (“Task Force”) is to gather proposals from residents and visitors on sidewalks, trails, paths, and bike lanes to make our community more accessible and friendly for walkers, runners, cyclists and people with mobility issues. Why Every recent Fernandina Beach citizen survey reflects walkability and bikeability a top priority for residents. With a growing population and 1.6 million visitors to Amelia Island each year, it’s time to prioritize mobility alternatives for walking and biking. Who The Deputy City Manager has appointed a panel of seven City residents representing diverse neighborhoods, interests and physical abilities, including a member of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. How and When The Task Force held its initial organizational meeting on March 22, 2023 at City Hall, 204 Ash Street. The Citizens’ Task Force for Safe Walking and Biking in Fernandina Beach (“Task Force”) invites the public to attend and provide input at any or all of the public meetings listed below. • Monday, April 17, 2023, from 5-7 p.m. at the Peck Center Auditorium: Robert Companion, Nassau County Deputy Manager/County Engineer provide an update on the extension of multiuse trails on Amelia Island including S. 14th St. and gather community input. • Tuesday, May 23, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at the Peck Center Auditorium: Second Community Walking and Biking Town Hall Meeting to invite additional citizen input. • Wednesday, May 31, 2023 from 4-6 p.m. at City Commission Chambers: The Task Force will hold a consensus-building meeting to select short-, mid- and long-term recommendations. • Monday, June 12, 2023 from 4-6 p.m. at City Commission Chambers: The Task Force will hold a community meeting and share the draft Task Force Final Report. • Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. at the City Commission’s Regular Meeting at City Hall: The Task Force will present a Report of Community Recommendations to Promote Safe and Accessible Walking and Biking in Fernandina Beach. How can you help? The Task Force is collecting input and recommendations to improve the access and safety of Fernandina Beach's walkers, runners, cyclists, and people with mobility issues. Registration started the first of April and will end in May 19th or when the divisions are full, whichever comes first. Indoor Soccer 2026 Indoor Soccer is for boys and girls ages 6 to 11. The City of Milton's Indoor Soccer league is a coed league. Ages are based on June 1st 2026. Registration began at the first of April and will run through June 9th with the league being played in July. Men's Church Softball 2024 Information
Men's Church Softball 2024 Information The Men’s Church softball season starts in mid-May and runs through July. League play is Thursday nights at the community center softball fields numbers 1 and 2 which are located by the football fields. End of the season standings will determine placement seeds for one pitch tournament that will determine league championship. League champion will receive engraved trophy with Church name. South Halifax Drive Lane Closures • City of Ormond Beach Road Closures Posted on September 30, 2026 From Monday, October 5th, 2026 to Thursday October 8th, 2026, South Halifax Drive will have nighttime lane closures between Ormond Parkway and Valencia Drive, from 7PM to 6AM. This is for sewer repair work. During the lane closure traffic flaggers will be directing traffic; please expect some delays. Please use extra caution due to the narrow lanes. Once the work is complete the road will be reopened and traffic will be permitted to resume. If you have any questions regarding this closure, please contact Ormond Beach Engineering at 386-610-0550. Fire Impact Fees
Beginning January 1, 2025, fire impact fees will increase for new development in specific areas of Sumter County. An impact fee is a one-time charge collected in the area North of Florida’s Turnpike and East to The Villages Public Safety Department Dependent District service boundary. The payment of the fire impact fee is concurrent to the issuance of building permits in this area. The fire impact fee can only be used for increasing the capacity of service through capital (not operational) expenditures. With the continued growth in and around the City of Wildwood, Sumter County plans to build a new fire station to serve the area in the Sumter County Fire & EMS boundary to meet appropriate response times for residents and businesses. The $8 million dollar estimate is for the land acquisition, design, construction, and fire engines to equip the new fire station. The area of location of the new fire station will be along the US 301 corridor north of Florida’s Turnpike and south of the Marion County line. New Residential Impact Fee Rates: · Single-family or multi-family lot: $973 · Manufactured home lot: $776 · Retirement community lot: $585 For the full listing of impact fees, please click here.
