Residents in Montgomery, Moore, Randolph, and Richmond counties should seek immediate shelter as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 11:00 AM EDT today, October 11.

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh NC issued the warning at 10:20 AM EDT. Severe thunderstorms, capable of producing 60 mph wind gusts, were located along a line extending from Asheboro to 10 miles northwest of Hoffman, moving east at 15 mph. Radar indicated the hazard.

Impacted locations include Asheboro, Randleman, North Carolina Zoo, Biscoe, Seagrove, Ramseur, Franklinville, Robbins, Ellerbe, and Foxfire. This warning also covers Interstate 73 between Mile Markers 28 and 81.

Expect damage to roofs, siding, and trees. A Tornado Watch remains in effect for central North Carolina until 5:00 PM EDT. The NWS advises remaining alert for a possible tornado. If you spot a tornado, go at once into the basement or a small central room in a sturdy structure. For straight-line winds, seek shelter in a sturdy building until the storm has passed and stay away from windows.
