HALIFAX, NC – Residents in Halifax, NC, and surrounding areas must seek immediate shelter as a Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 3:30 PM EDT today, October 11, 2026. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh NC issued the warning at 3:12 PM EDT.
A severe thunderstorm was detected near Halifax, moving northeast at 30 mph. The primary hazard is 60 mph wind gusts, which could cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees. The NWS confirms this information is based on radar indications.
Impacted locations include Roanoke Rapids, Weldon, South Weldon, Airlie, Rosemary, Roanoke Rapids Lake, and Lake Gaston. This warning also covers Interstate 95 between Mile Markers 173 and 168.
A Tornado Watch remains in effect for central North Carolina until 5:00 PM EDT. Remain alert for a possible tornado. If you spot a tornado, immediately go to the basement or a small, central room in a sturdy structure.
