Reduced Visibility: Dense Fog Advisory for Central NC, Drive with Caution
A Special Weather Statement has been issued by the NWS Raleigh for dense fog across central NC, effective until 9:00 AM EDT, urging drivers to exercise caution due to reduced visibility.
RALEIGH, NC – October 2, 2026 – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Raleigh has issued a Special Weather Statement this morning, October 2, 2026, at 4:31 AM EDT, warning of areas of fog across interior portions of the Piedmont and Virginia border counties. This alert is effective until 9:00 AM EDT today.
Residents in Person, Granville, Vance, Warren, Halifax, Alamance, Orange, Durham, Franklin, Randolph, Chatham, Stanly, Montgomery, and Anson counties should be aware of reduced visibility. Visibility may drop to a half-mile or less at times, particularly in Halifax, Franklin, Chatham, and Anson Counties.
If you are driving this morning, the NWS advises allowing extra travel time to reach your destination. Reduce your driving speeds, increase your following distances, and use only low beam headlights. Visibilities are expected to improve by 9:00 AM EDT. No further action is required at this time.
