Strong Thunderstorm Threatens Parker Valley, Yuma with 40 MPH Winds
A Special Weather Statement has been issued for Parker Valley, Kofa, Yuma, Chuckwalla Mountains, Imperial County Southeast, and Palo Verde Valley due to a strong thunderstorm bringing wind gusts up to 40 mph, lightning, and potential flash flooding until 11:00 PM PDT.
Residents in Parker Valley, Kofa, Yuma, Chuckwalla Mountains, Imperial County Southeast, and Palo Verde Valley are advised to monitor weather conditions closely due to a Special Weather Statement issued by the National Weather Service Phoenix, AZ. A strong thunderstorm is tracking north at 30 mph, located 11 miles north of Andrade, or 16 miles west of Martinez Lake.
This storm poses several hazards, including wind gusts up to 40 mph, frequent cloud-to-ground lightning, and torrential rainfall that could lead to flash flooding. Gusty winds may knock down tree limbs and displace unsecured objects. The statement is effective immediately, issued October 10 at 10:25 PM PDT, and expires October 10 at 11:00 PM PDT.
Impacted locations include Martinez Lake and Algodones Dunes. Residents are urged to seek safe shelter inside a building or vehicle to avoid lightning, which can strike up to 10 miles from the storm.
