Residents in parts of Imperial County, including Calipatria, Slab City, Glamis, Wiest, and Niland, are advised to monitor weather conditions closely as a strong thunderstorm approaches.

The National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ issued a Special Weather Statement today, October 10, 2026, at 5:51 PM PDT. Doppler radar indicates a strong thunderstorm 25 miles north of Algodones Dunes, moving north at 45 mph. This storm is expected to bring wind gusts up to 30 mph.

Impacted areas include the Chuckwalla Mountains, Imperial County Southeast, Imperial Valley, and Palo Verde Valley. Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. The statement is effective until 7:15 PM PDT.

The NWS advises monitoring the weather situation closely and being alert for threatening weather conditions.
