An Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Parker, Gila, Palo Verde, and Chuckwalla Valleys from Thursday morning to evening, with temperatures up to 105 degrees. Residents should take precautions against heat-related illnesses and reschedule strenuous outdoor activities.
Residents in the Parker Valley, Gila River Valley, Palo Verde Valley, and Chuckwalla Valley are urged to take immediate precautions as an Extreme Heat Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) Phoenix AZ. This warning is in effect from 10 AM MST /10 AM PDT/ on Thursday, October 7, until 8 PM MST /8 PM PDT/ on Thursday, October 7.
Dangerously hot conditions are expected, with afternoon temperatures ranging from 102 to 105 degrees. This level of heat poses a Major Heat Risk, and overexposure can lead to heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and potentially life-threatening heat stroke.
The NWS advises extra precautions for those working or spending time outdoors. Strenuous activities should be rescheduled to early morning or evening. Wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing and drink plenty of water. Familiarize yourself with the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If someone is overcome by heat, move them to a cool, shaded location immediately. Heat stroke is a medical emergency; call 911.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments for outdoor workers. Public cooling shelters may be available; contact county officials for details on locations and hours.
