A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Perry County, including Beaumont, New Augusta, and Richton, warning of hazardous winds up to 45 mph and potential moderate flooding; residents should secure property and prepare for possible evacuations by 3:00 PM UTC today.
PERRY COUNTY, MS – A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for Perry County, affecting the areas of Beaumont, New Augusta, and Richton. The National Weather Service (NWS) Mobile AL issued the watch today, October 9, at 6:53 AM CDT. This watch is effective until 3:00 PM UTC today.
Residents should plan for hazardous winds with potential gusts up to 45 mph. Efforts to protect property, including securing porches, awnings, sheds, and unanchored mobile homes, should be underway now. Act quickly to complete preparations before winds become hazardous. Damage to large tree limbs and scattered power outages are possible.
Moderate flooding rain is also a significant concern. While no significant rainfall is currently forecast, the NWS warns of the potential for moderate flooding that could prompt evacuations and rescues. Rivers and tributaries may become swollen, and floodwaters could enter structures. Heed any flood watches and warnings, as failure to take action may result in serious injury or loss of life. Consider protective actions if you are in an area vulnerable to flooding.
Tornadoes are not expected at this time. For local information, contact Perry County EMA at 601-964-8474 or visit www.facebook.com/perrycountyemd. For storm impacts, refer to www.weather.gov/mob.
