Severe Thunderstorm Warning: Take Immediate Shelter for 70 MPH Winds

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect until 8:15 PM CDT for Bee, Jim Wells, Live Oak, Nueces, Refugio, and San Patricio counties, with 70 mph wind gusts and lightning expected. Seek immediate shelter indoors.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued by the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, effective immediately until 8:15 PM CDT today, October 1. Residents in southeastern Bee, northeastern Jim Wells, southeastern Live Oak, northwestern Nueces, southwestern Refugio, and all of San Patricio Counties should seek immediate shelter.

At 7:21 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were identified moving east at 30 mph, stretching from Lake City to Banquete, and from Mathis to west of Robstown. These storms are capable of producing wind gusts up to 70 mph, which can cause considerable tree damage and likely damage to mobile homes, roofs, and outbuildings.

Locations impacted include Corpus Christi, Robstown, Sinton, Mathis, Taft, Odem, Orange Grove, St. Paul, Lake City, San Patricio, Edroy, West Sinton, Bluntzer, Calallen, Sandia, Tynan, Annaville, Papalote, Banquete, and Alfred-South La Paloma. This warning also covers Interstate 37 between mile markers 9 and 39, US Highway 181 between mile markers 608 and 630, and US Highway 77 between mile markers 640 and 658.

Anyone outdoors must move to shelter inside a sturdy building and stay away from windows. Continuous cloud-to-ground lightning is also occurring; remember, if you hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck. Torrential rainfall may lead to flash flooding; do not drive through flooded roadways.
