A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Bee, Nueces, Refugio, and San Patricio counties until 8:15 PM CDT tonight, October 1. Residents in these areas should prepare for 60 mph wind gusts and the potential for continuous cloud-to-ground lightning and torrential rainfall.
The National Weather Service Corpus Christi reports that severe thunderstorms were located along a line from 5 miles north of West Sinton to Annaville, moving east at 30 mph as of 7:50 PM CDT. Expected impacts include damage to roofs, siding, and trees.
Affected locations include Sinton, Mathis, Taft, Odem, St. Paul, Lake City, San Patricio, West Sinton, Edroy, Papalote, Tynan, Lakeside, Taft Southwest, and Lake Corpus Christi. This warning also covers Interstate 37 between mile markers 15 and 39, US Highway 181 between mile markers 608 and 630, and US Highway 77 between mile markers 640 and 658.
If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning; seek shelter immediately. Additionally, be aware of torrential rainfall which may lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle through flooded roadways.
